Daisy, survivor of abandonment*

Georgia Legal Professionals for Animals, Inc. (GLPA) is a non-profit, mainstream animal advocacy organization comprised of volunteer professionals who care about the humane treatment of animals. Please read our Mission Statement, other links about our group and refer to our prosecutors' manual. Thank you for visiting our site and your interest in GLPA.

How to Prosecute Animal Cruelty from Start to Finish is our prosecutors' manual on animal cruelty prosecutions. The manual is a collective GLPA project and is copyrighted material of GLPA. The manual offers a step-by-step guide on how to prosecute such crimes including valuable tips on evidence gathering, making a solid case and issues facing investigators. The manual also sets forth the critical role played by veterinarians, and cites the relevant Georgia cruelty laws. The manual is a work in progress and will be updated and revised periodically.

 GA Legislation HB 109 Cockfighting

This year Georgia has pending legislation to increase the penalties and fines relating to cockfighting. Currently, cockfighting is only prohibited under the cruelty law.  HB 109  would specifically make cockfighting, owning, possessing or training birds for fighting, and allowing a premises to be used for cockfighting felony offenses.  It also would make being a spectator at a cockfight an aggravated misdemeanor. Please contact your elected Representative in the GA House and ask him/her to support HB 109. .

You can locate your State Representative at this link:
